As the opening performance of the 25th China Shanghai International Arts Festival and the inaugural concert of the Shanghai Grand Opera House, Shanghai Grand Opera House and Friends brings together celebrated artists from China and abroad, who unreservedly present an opera feast spanning the classical and the contemporary repertoires in both indoor and outdoor spaces. From classic excerpts by Mozart, Verdi, and Puccini, to iconic Chinese national operas such as The Long March and Daughter of the Party, and on to songs of our era such as Ode to the Red Flag and China in the Lights, the program showcases the full splendor of the vocal art. Conductors Zhang Guoyong, Long Yu, and Xu Zhong; singers Liao Changyong, Shi Yijie, Yan Weiwen, Lei Jia, Ying Huang, Shenyang, and Zhu Huiling; and overseas singers Juan Diego Flórez, and Siobhan Stagg take the stage together with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, the Shanghai Opera House Orchestra, the Shanghai Opera House Chorus, and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, composing a brilliant movement for the dialogue between Eastern and Western cultures.
