Intimate Relations is a dance-theatre work built around the movement vocabulary of ballroom dance. Through four chapters: “He and She,” “They,” “We,”, and “You and I”. It uses nonlinear structure to present the complex scenarios found in contemporary emotional relationships. The work transforms competitive ballroom dance into a physical narrative for the stage, blending it with contemporary dance, Argentine tango, and other movement languages. Attraction, dependence, confrontation, and separation become bodily metaphors for emotion. Through dance, the production explores the continually changing relationship between the individual and the self as well as between one person and another. It responds to contemporary questions about intimacy, freedom, and connection, inviting us to reconsider our bonds with one another through empathy.
