THE REALM OF GREAT ILLUSION takes its name from one of the most philosophically significant spaces in the novel Dream of the Red Chamber. Centered on the interplay of reality and illusion, it creates a contemporary sonic theater where instrumental music, live electronics, physical action, and sound installations unfold together. The work progresses through four stages: “Entering the Dream”, “Reading Fate”, “Passing Through Illusion,” and “Awakening from the Dream”. Rather than retelling the novel’s plot, it transforms its reflections on dreams, fate, desire, and awakening into an experience that can be heard and felt. If the ending has already been written, how do we travel through it? Beginning with breath and sound, amidst sounds that continually emerge, transform, and disappear, the work searches for the possibility of remaining aware and fully present within what cannot be controlled.
