Kun Opera the Family is adapted from Ba Jin’s novel of the same title. As an original work on a modern, realist subject, it employs a dual structure, two-way storytelling involving both the characters in the book and the author. Ba Jin’s life is interwoven with the destinies of characters such as Juexin and Juehui, revealing the individual’s struggle and awakening amidst the currents of history. Juexin’s growth forms the main thread, while Ba Jin’s creative experience and classic scenes from the novel are interpreted through the refined, flowing cadences of Kun Opera, with Plum Blossom Award winner Yu Jiulin playing the dual roles of Juexin and Li Yaomei. Through nuanced and touching performances as well as multi-faceted staging, the work depicts the conflicts within a feudal family and the defiant spirit of the younger generation.
