Yue Opera The Eternal Majesty is set during Zhuge Liang’s diplomatic mission to Eastern Wu and his role in forging the alliance between Sun Quan and Liu Bei. Told in flashback, the work begins with him writing the Pre-Battle Memorandum to His Majesty and looks back in time to a younger Zhuge Liang in Jinling, where he devised strategies from afar. It portrays a young statesman devoted to the realm and to the welfare of its people. Written by acclaimed playwright Luo Zhou, the production marks the directorial debut of Plum Blossom Award and Magnolia Stage Performance Award winner Li Xiaoxu, who also performs. Joined by the young ensemble of the Nanjing Yue Opera Troupe, she uses poetic Yue Opera expression and a modern stage aesthetic to illuminate the idea that true strategic strength lies not in mountains and rivers, but in the hearts of the people.
