The China Shanghai International Arts Festival has always followed the global trajectory of art and technology. Within its visual arts section it now launches “X-TRA,” a brand-new exhibition brand with a sustained focus on digital art and AI art creation. Its first exhibition project, Terra Nova, is co-presented with Tank Shanghai and curated by Mr. Qiao Zhibing. Bringing together six leading digital artists from China and abroad, it works across diverse media including immersive installation, AI moving image, and real-time interaction to examine the entirely new systems of perception brought forth by algorithms, data, and artificial intelligence, as well as uncovering the emergent shape of reality’s order in the digital age. The exhibition sets out to connect cutting-edge international practice with the local digital art ecosystem and to build a benchmark digital art project in which technology and ideas converge. During the same period, a themed dialogue will be held as part of Shanghai International Artwork Trade Week, inviting international curators, artists, and technology researchers to reflect on new questions of digital civilization.
