Since its premiere in 1836, Nikolai Gogol’s classic satirical comedy The Government Inspector has earned praise as one of the finest comedies in world theater. The story unfolds as an absurd farce sparked by a case of mistaken identity involving a government inspector. Through escalating misunderstandings and comedic situations, it delivers a biting critique of bureaucracy and of human vanity and desire. Directed by Ying Da, this production brings together acclaimed actors Li Chengru, Huang Hong, Liu Wei, and Wang Jinsong. Faithful to the spirit of the original, its precise comic timing and vivid character portrayals imbues stage vitality to a classic nearly two centuries old while reaffirming its profound relevance.
