Contemporary dance master Akram Khan and his company present their farewell production, Thikra: Night of Remembering. The title Thikra comes from Arabic and means “memory” or “remembrance.” Inspired by an annual ritual, the work brings together Bharatanatyam and Western contemporary dance to explore memory, identity and cultural transmission, conveying the idea that “without a past there can be no future”. Performed by an all-women ensemble and enriched by visual art design, it creates an immersive theatrical experience. As both a farewell and a tribute to artistic lineage, the production offers deeper resonance to the stage’s exploration of memory and cultural transmission.
