Created by Golden Lion Award winner Alessandro Sciarroni, SAVE THE LAST DANCE FOR ME draws inspiration from the endangered Italian folk dance tradition of Polka Chinata, Through duet performance and the practice of transmission, the work reactivates this unique heritage of bodily culture. The two dancers develop a precise, intuitive physical dialogue through continuous turns, close physical contact and mutual support. Movements that test both technique and endurance reveal the dance’s contemporary vitality, allowing cultural transmission to flourish anew on stage. With a minimalist and restrained stage language, the work traces the continuity and renewal of embodied memory across generations, giving this ancient dance a vibrant contemporary significance.
