Mahler Symphonies Cycle Valery Gergiev and Mariinsky Orchestra

Since 1988, Valery Gergiev has served as Artistic Director of the Mariinsky Theatre and is widely regarded as one of the most influential conductors of our time. Under his leadership, the Mariinsky Orchestra—one of Russia’s oldest ensembles, founded in the early 18th century—has achieved global acclaim, continually expanding its repertoire and artistic depth. At this year’s festival, Gergiev will lead the orchestra in a rare and ambitious feat: performing the complete cycle of Mahler’s symphonies—Symphonies No. 1 through Symphonies No. 9—over the course of five days.
