Dance Drama The Rite of Spring

Commissioned by the stage performing arts section of the Rising Artists’ Works (R.A.W.!) programme, The Rite of Spring is a piece that creatively transforms and innovatively develops a classic. In human cognition, time is perceived as a linear progression, while space is understood as the extension occupied by objects. Yet beyond the senses and imagination, the individual exists within the world—and the world, in turn, reveals itself in other ways. In 2025, marking over 110 years since the premiere of The Rite of Spring, this classic work is reinterpreted through the lens of a contemporary Chinese cultural context. Employing diverse technological tools and cross-media creative approaches, the project retains the original intensity of the piece while infusing it with a contemporary language and embodied experience. It unfolds as an exploration of life, community, and ritual—breathing new vitality and spiritual resonance into this foundational artistic motif for today’s world."
