


YANG Liping is a Chinese dancer and former Vice Chair of the 10th China Dancers Association. She began her career in 1971 with the Xishuangbanna Song and Dance Troupe, later transferring to the Central Nationalities Song and Dance Troupe, and became renowned for her "peacock dance." In 1988, she was named one of the top ten news figures of the year by Beijing Daily; in 1992, she became the first dancer from Mainland China to perform in Taiwan. Her solo piece Spirit of the Peacock won the Gold Award for 20th-Century Chinese Dance Classics. She also wrote and starred in the film Sun Bird, which received the Jury Prize at the Montreal World Film Festival. Her large-scale dance production Dynamic Yunnan and its companion piece The Sound of Yunnan were widely acclaimed, and she became the first Chinese dancer to stage a solo evening-length performance. She has received the Montblanc International Arts Patronage Award and the "World Influential Chinese" Award. She has served as Vice Chair of the Yunnan Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Vice Chair of the China Dancers Association, and continues to work as artistic director and choreographer for major productions, remaining actively engaged in dance creation and cultural exchange.
