Shanghai Jingju Theatre Company

Shanghai Jingju Theatre – a nationally designated key Peking opera company under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and a national-level intangible cultural heritage protection unit. Founded in 1955, its first director was the legendary Peking opera master Zhou Xinfang; the current director is Zhang Fan.


With a storied history, the Theatre's artistic foundation was laid by pioneering masters including Zhou Xinfang, Gai Jiaotian, Yu Zhenfei, Huang Guiqiu, and Zheng Faxiang. A wealth of performing and creative talents have gathered here, forming a formidable artistic force.


Infused with Shanghai's unique cultural character, the Theatre has developed a distinctive style, creating a vibrant cultural landscape. Embracing an inclusive, cosmopolitan spirit, it brings together diverse talents and a rich repertoire.
