Jingju Theater Company of Beijing

Beijing Jingju Theatre Company – China’s largest and most historically rich national-level Peking opera troupe under the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism (public welfare category II). Formed through the merger of Beijing’s leading opera schools and lineage-based troupes: Beijing Jingju Troupe (founded 1955), Beijing Municipal Jingju Troupe (1963), and Beijing Experimental Jingju Troupe (merged 1986).

Its founding masters – Mei Lanfang, Shang Xiaoyun, Cheng Yanqiu, Xun Huisheng, Ma Lianliang, Tan Fuying, Zhang Junqiu, Qiu Shengrong, and Zhao Yanxia – along with nearly twenty other lineage founders and senior artists, laid the artistic and spiritual cornerstone of the company.

The Theatre boasts a deep roster across all role types and stylistic schools, with a multi-tiered performer system (leading stars, alternate leads, core company members, young vanguards, and rising talents), supported by comprehensive professional expertise in playwriting, performance, and stagecraft.
