The True Story of A School Master, produced by the Preservation Centre of Hunan Flower Drum Opera

The True Story of A School Master tells the story of Zhang Jiuru, a scholar who repeatedly failed the imperial examination but remained optimistic and confident. Just as he was confident that he would succeed in the upcoming examination, news arrived that the imperial examination system was abolished. With his dreams shattered, he had to establish a new school for survival. He tried his best to adapt to the changing times, but the constantly shifting circumstances always caught him off guard. He found himself trapped in awkward situations, unable to extricate himself from the predicaments of survival. As a person of the old era in a new age, he consciously or unconsciously adhered to values that society had abandoned. He often maintained his dignity and personal boundaries even when faced with compromises. When the nation faced a crisis, he held firm to his belief that a small effort could overcome significant obstacles. He chose to resist without hesitation, even in the face of adversity. This story evokes both sympathy and respect for his unwavering determination and resilience.
