The Shanghai Chinese Orchestra was founded in 1952 and is one of the earliest modern large-scale Chinese orchestras established in China. It has been known for its distinctive style and excellent performances, holding a significant position in developing Chinese folk music. In recent years, the orchestra has been guided by the principles of "Chinese folk music, contemporary qualities, and international expression". They continuously seek to explore the contemporary value of traditional Chinese folk music. They have infused Chinese spirit, values, and a sense of responsibility into their folk music compositions, creating original works with various styles and themes. Some of their notable original creations include Harmony on the Sea, Shared Homeland, Tales of the Bund, and Blooming Osmanthus Flowers, establishing a unique and diverse "Shanghai -style" music brand.
