Kun Qu opera Age of Splendour by Zhejiang Jingkun Art Center (Kun Qu opera Troupe)
The Kunqu opera Age of Splendour is a dedicated production by the Zhejiang Jingkun Art Centre. The entire production is carried by the sixth-generation -“Dai” generation young performers of the centre’s Kunqu troupe, who channel the power of youth to interpret and revitalise traditional art. Inspired by the precious historical epitaph “Millennium Long Life, Song of the Pepper Blossom”—written by Princess Taiping for Shangguan Wan’er and unearthed in 2013—the opera reconstructs the grand Tang Dynasty history from a female perspective. Spanning thirty-five turbulent years of the Tang Dynasty, the narrative portrays palace intrigue and emotional entanglements, exploring the human brilliance amid power struggles. The work highlights women’s wisdom and courage in the political vortex, while revealing the enduring values of family and friendship, composing a poignant symphony of female fate.
