The original ballet Home

The ballet Home centres on the lives of overseas Chinese in the Greater Bay Area, telling a moving story of love, faith, and belonging. Interweaving the tides of history with individual emotion, the production explores the deep connections between personal identity and national devotion. At its heart is the story of young lovers Ah Hui and Ah Lan, who must make a choice between love and duty when called upon by their homeland. Grounded in a realist choreographic style, the ballet seamlessly incorporates elements of Lingnan intangible cultural heritage, including Cantonese opera sleeve movements, Southern-style martial arts, Yingge dance, and dragon and lion dances. These culturally rich expressions are artistically fused with classical ballet vocabulary, evoking a distinct regional aesthetic. Supported by the National Arts Fund as a 2025 major stage production grant recipient, Home premiered on April 26, 2025, as the opening performance of the Guangzhou Arts Season at the Guangzhou Opera House.
