Modern ballet The Jade Hairpin is based on the Kunqu opera of the same name and tells the story of CHEN Miaochang, a noble lady, and PAN Bizheng, a scholar, who are fated to endure love's trials during the Northern Song Dynasty's southward relocation. Despite being toyed with by destiny, they fulfill their vow of love with their lives. The performance skillfully combines the delicacy of Kunqu with the elegance of ballet, blending
elements of music, chess, calligraphy, painting, and opera.
This fusion of Kunqu's subtle grace and ballet's pointe technique creates a journey that transcends time and space.
