The Wuxi opera, The Road to New Life of Juan Sheng, is a project supported by the National Art Fund and the Jiangsu Art Fund. It is coproduced by the Wuxi Xiju Theater and the Dongtai Xiju Troupe. The play is based on Lu Xun's novel "The Passing of Time", focusing on the youth of educated individuals in old China and depicting their struggles and awakening. Using vivid character portrayals and a modern stage style, the play offers a fresh aesthetic experience to contemporary audiences, allowing them to feel the spirit of Lu Xun's era. The script is written wby the nationally acclaimed playwright Zhong Chunmei and directed by renowned director An Fengying. The leading roles are played by Wang Ziyu, the third-generation inheritor of the "Bin Bin Tune" of Wuxi opera, and Cai Yu, the third-generation inheritor of the "Mei School" of Wuxi opera. The play has been selected for the Jiangsu Province New Era Stage Arts Outstanding Play Tour. It showcases the rich cultural heritage of Wuxi opera and presents a compelling interpretation of Lu Xun's spirit and the era he lived in.
