The play is a reimagined adaptation of an old story. The story revolves around Zhuang Zhou, who is half-human and half-sage. He strictly practices his philosophy of "pure tranquility and inaction". He even prohibits his wife, Tian Shi, from picking flowers and decorating her hair, deeming it against nature. One day, he suspects Tian Shi has fallen for the Chu prince. To test her feelings, he employs his mystical powers to fake his own death and then transforms into the Chu prince. He intends to observe Tian Shi's reactions and perhaps seek her love and marriage, leading to a series of comical situations. In the end, Zhuang Zhou gains a newfound understanding and writes a divorce letter to free Tian Shi. However, having realized the illusory nature of everything, how will Tian Shi respond to this offer of freedom? The play takes a fresh perspective on the classic tale and explores the themes of authenticity, love, and the nature of reality.
