PERFORMANCE

This edition of CSIAF includes 57 stage performances. Following Berliner Philharmoniker in Shanghai in June, the Munich Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Vienna Philharmonic will also come to Shanghai during the festival, alongside other world-class artists, groups, and pieces such as Spartacus by the Bolshoi Ballet, La Bayadère by the Mariinsky Ballet，mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča，bass-baritone Bryn Terfel，pianist Yuja WANG，etc. Centred around the 75th anniversary of the PRC’s establishment, CSIAF will present the musical Chasing Dreams, dance drama The Thunder, modern opera Shi Ping Mei, and many non-fiction and Red-themed works. During this month, Beijing People's Art Theatre will bring five major dramas including Teahouse, The Caine Mutiny, Sunrise, Du Fu, and Beneath the Red Banner to Shanghai for a one-month-long residency. Performances themed around “Poetry Extravaganza – Talent Gathering”, such as Kunju Convivium of Tang Luminaries, Innovated Peking Opera Xuetao, etc will be introduced. Works such as physical theatre production Sculpture and Poetry and dance drama The Reunion of Oasis echo the rise of modern Chinese cultural pride, bringing cultural relics to life on stage.
