The Beijing People's Art Theatre presents the highly acclaimed play An Old-Fashioned Comedy, directed by Ban Zan and starring Li Youbin and Shi Lanya. This play is adapted from the works of the former Soviet playwright Arbuzov. In many of his works, themes of life, fate, and emotions are intertwined with the broader historical context while focusing on the nuances of everyday life. An Old-Fashioned Comedy is a representative piece in this regard. The plot revolves around two elderly individuals who have experienced the scars of war. Through nine acts, the play progressively unfolds its story. Set in a nursing home, it portrays how they meet and gradually form a connection by sharing their understandings and insights about life. As they reveal their thoughts, two lonely souls come closer together.

Cao Yu's Thunderstorm has stood the test of time and has been brought to the stage multiple times. In 2021, directors Pu Cunxin and Tang Ye approached it with a fresh perspective, "(we've been) exploring the original script published by Mr. Cao Yu in 1934 and discovering many clues within it," according to Pu Cunxin, "In this interpretation, the audience can search for new answers themselves." Apart from the creative team's continuous excavation of the script and reinterpretation of various details, the cast, consisting of Pu Cunxin, Shi Lanya, Bai Hui, Li Hongtao, Wang Junqi, Chen Hongxu, and others from different generations, is also a significant highlight of the play. With poetic stage settings and music that weaves together classical and contemporary elements, this classic work presents a fresh and unique perspective.
