As the companion to his Map, Tan Dun’s new work Women’s Script  took him 5 years for the composition. In the perspective of anthropology, Women’s Script is a symphony combining with modern technology, ancient sound source and visual effect. The work is beautiful yet lack of no profound historical sense, with a balance between illusion and reality. It is honored as one of the greatest art works of the world in the last decade. Women’s Script is created by and used only between women, is a peculiar language system passed down from generation to generation, a solely female scripts extant in the world, discovered in Jiangyong county, Hunan province.The characters possess a natural grace and is full of musicality in pronunciation. Tan Dun drew inspiration for his Women’s Script from this language system and intended to represent its amazing charm in the form of music. It is no wonder that the filmstrip presented in the last China Shanghai International Arts Festival drew great attention promptly.
