As a promoter and practitioner of cultural diversity, China is obliged to abide by and promote the UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of Diversity of Cultural Expression (hereafter as “the Convention”). The explosive development of information and communication technologies has greatly prompts the trend of globalization, which may pose a challenge to cultural diversity, but can facilitate new cross-cultural and cross-civilization dialogues at the same time. As suggested by the Convention, the market alone cannot guarantee a healthy protection and growth of cultural diversity. Therefore, the joint effort of the governmental departments of culture, commerce, foreign affairs, press and etc is required to conclude the present cultural diversity situation of a country and to plan a sustainable development strategy for future work.
