Shaanxi Folk Songs Come to Beijing
The folk tunes Qin Qiang and Lao Qiang from northwest Shaanxi will come to the stage in Beijing next week. A concert in Zhongshan Park Music Hall to demonstrate original folk music will bring more than 40 local singers to Beijing. Most of them are local farmers by profession.
Many Chinese may have heard of Qin Qiang, but rarely have a chance to actually listen to it. Lao Qiang is even lesser known to outsiders. This folk music has a nearly two thousand year old history. Exclusive to a small area in Shangxi, now only some 20 singers can sing such songs. Famous actor Pu Cunxin will host the concert. He's even learned Shangxi dialect for this purpose.
