Title of Project:Dance Me by BJM-Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal
Genre(s): Ballet.
GROUP:BJM-Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF : Sat-Sun|10/20-10/21|19:30|80 mins Majestic Theatre Leonard Cohen’s Dance Me is an exclusive new creation inspired by the rich and profound work of Montreal-based poet, artist and songwriter, Leonard Cohen presented by BJM-Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal. To create an unforgettable show with a strong and bold scenic dramaturgy, Louis Robitaille has brought in director Eric Jean and an entire team of new collaborators. The choreographic dimension of the show will be assumed by three immensely talented artists: Andonis Foniadakis, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa and Ihsan Rustem - each with their own unique but entirely complementary personalities. This trio, accompanied by 14 BJM performing artists, will share the different chapters of the show in order to create a powerful and profound choreographic world that aptly reflects Cohen’s singular work. The piece will be brought to life as five seasons evoking the cycles of human existence. Each cycle is associated with the colours and natural elements of that particular season, along with its own host of scenes, emotions and states of mind. A selection of Cohen’s songs will underpin the artist’s recurring and universal themes of love, spirituality, poetry, society, artificial paradise, inspiration, creativity and the quest for freedom. The world premiere of this choreographic work was presented at Place des Arts from 5 to 10 December, 2017 as part of the Danse Danse series and Montreal’s 375th Anniversary official programming.
