The Austria Camerata Salzburg was founded in 1952 by the Salzburg conductor and educator Bernhard Baumgartner. He summoned a group of teachers and students from the Mozart Academy of Music to ensemble music together.

In Salzburg, the orchestra regularly participates in the Salzburg Festival, the Mozart Week and the Salzburg Music Season Concert. The orchestra is known for its original Mozart music and Viennese classical music. The orchestra's repertoire is centered on Viennese classical music, extending from the core Mozart works to the romantic period and modern works.
