Yang Liping’s Rite of Spring is a brand new creation which is completely different from any previous version, integrating her deep understandings of Chinese traditional culture especially the concept of nature and life in Tibetan culture. Rite of Spring describes the self-salvation path that the sacrificed peacock takes. Yang Liping is not prepared to picture a concrete world while in her work the stage will become an abstract universe where time, space and life would coexist and everything reincarnates again and again. By virtue of traditional Tibetan dance and modern dance, Yang Liping injects her unique peacock dance language into the work.
