Butoh TOBARI by Sankai Juku

Sankai Juku was founded in 1975 by Ushio Amagatsu, performing at several international art festivals such as the Edinburgh International Festival and the Festival d'Avignon. Ushio Amagatsu, the director, choreographer and designer, was born in Yokosuka, Japan in 1949. In 1975, he founded the Sankai Juku Dance Company.  Hewon several awards such as the Purple-Ribbon Medal (2011) by the Japanese government, the Art Encouragement Prize by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan (2004) and so on. He was also named Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters (1992) by the French Ministry of Culture and served as the Director of Art and Literature of the French Ministry of Culture (2014).
