“Ah Q and Kong Yiji”is a play which combines two of the most representative novels of Lu Xun The True Story of Ah Q and Kong Yiji into one, conveying profound thoughts of the original according to the unique form of opera art.
Since put on the stage in 1996, it has been performed over 50 times leading to strong repercussions and was acclaimed as “the best play among lots of dramas draw on Lu Xun’s novels”. The play is the unity of thought, art, and entertainment. With great cultural profoundness, it has reached a certain high level of both aesthetic characters and artistic taste and is praised as “opening up a new road between classic and popular drama, traditional art and modern concept”. The play was performed in Beijing three times in 2001, 2002 and 2003. The Ministry of Culture and Chinese Dramatists held expert symposiums, and CCTV 11 recorded and broadcasted it several times. The play has been performed in many colleges and universities and was warmly welcomed by young students.
