This exhibition is different from the traditional ink painting exhibition. Taking the 40 years of reform and opening up as a path, we have selected more than 30 iconic artists in the contemporary ink art field from home and abroad, and made a holistic presentation of Chinese Ink Conceptual Art in context. A breakthrough from ink painting’s emphasize on the expression of paper and ink in convention, and explore a new "water and ink concept" that permeate into various fields such as art and life, and further enter into the daily aesthetics of the public, which then introduce ink art elements into the macro aesthetic thinking. It allows traditional ink art to be inherited and innovated in a new era, with the practice of the “Inherit ink art, More love for mother China” as the core of its cultural self-confidence strategy.

As the starting point of World tour exhibition, the first Chinese Ink Conceptual Art Exhibition aims to initiate a new tradition for Chinese ink – a brand new “ink history” with world influence, originated from Chinese experience and logical thinking – and convey the rational wish and local experience to the world. 

The highlight of the exhibition is the extended and interactive museums next to the main exhibition hall, which conveyed the conceptual elements of water ink art through new media technology, which interact with audience to inspire further comprehension and thoughts, meanwhile, the Shanghai Institute of Visual Arts engages teenagers and children in the ink painting competition in the interactive museum and take action to promote the practice of aesthetic education.
