The opera is adapted from the long poem Wang Gui And Li Xiangxiang, written by Li Ji. The opera   describes how people of Yanchi County in Ningxia and surrounding areas embarked on hard revolutionary course 70 years ago,  It reveals the inevitable causal connections between personal destiny and revolutionary course through reproducing the sorrow and happiness of love between the hero and the heroine as well as exciting life in the revolutionary development. The story also reveals the tragic situation of the oppressed class in rural areas of that time,, vividly reflecting the spectacular scene of farmers’ revolution and the high enthusiasm of the laboring people to struggle for a happy life.
