Dong Biwu by The People's Art Theatre of Wuhan

The drama Dong Biwu is adapted from a thrilling experience of Mr. Dong biwu, one of the founders of CCP, and this is only an episode in his long-drawn revolutionary career. The story is set in 1947 in Zhou’s Residence, the Shanghai Office of CCP, where Mr. Dong Biwu was besieged by military police for 48 hours before managing to escape danger. In his fight against enemies, he exhibited great wisdom and lofty character, the revolutionary spirit of being loyal to faith and facing death unflinchingly, and the great mind of uniting progressive forces to fight for a common cause.

The drama combines the artistic means of realism and romanticism, reflects the glories of Mr. Dong Biwu in various historical periods, and displays the highlights in his revolutionary life, such as “Entrusting And Saving Orphans”, “Narrow Escape”, “Romance of Long March”, “Verbal Battle with Demons”, among others. The story outlines how the founder of CCP was toughened and empowered to become a great proletarian revolutionary from a scholar in Late Qing Dynasty, so as to enable people to have a profound thinking about the history, present and future of Chinese nation.

The drama will be performed by the People’s Art Theatre Wuhan, scripted by Zhao Ruitai, directed by Huang Dingshan and starred by Lu Yu.
