Violin Recital by Itzhak Perlman

Itzhak Perlman was born in Israel in 1945. Although Perlman contracted polio at the age of four, he began studying violin at the age of five. He once studied at Shulamit Conservatory. Later he studied at the Juilliard School with the violin pedagogues Ivan Galamian and Dorothy DeLay. He made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 1963 and won the Leventritt Competition in 1964. Perlman has performed for many world leaders, and has performed with a number of notable musicians including Yo-Yo Ma, Jessye Norman, Isaac Stern, and Yuri Temirkanov. He also makes guest appearances on American television shows. He is good at playing works of Niccolo Paganini, Henryk Wieniawski, and Bach.

Perlman has recorded and released many albums covering vast portions of the violin repertoire. His recordings have earned several Grammy Awards. Besides, Perlman has been a soloist for a number of film scores such as Schindler's List that subsequently won an Academy Award for Best Original Score and the 2005 film Memoirs of a Geisha. In 2000, Itzhak Perlman was awarded the National Medal of Arts. In 2003, John F. Kennedy Center awarded him Kennedy Center Honors Award. In 2008, he was awarded Glamor Lifetime Achievement Award.
