CounterMove by Sydney Dance Company

CounterMove by Sydney Dance Company

Sydney Dance Company began as a group founded in 1969 by dancer Suzanne Musitz. The reward of truly moving audiences, and the raw pride of sharing Australian art with the world has driven Sydney dance company's ensemble of 16 dancers, led by Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela, to become one of the world’s strongest forces in contemporary dance. The Company has a broad community beyond the practice and performance of our lead dancers. They believe in the universality of dance.

Rafael Bonachela has been the Artistic Director for Sydney Dance Company since 2009. In 2013, Kaldor Public Art Projects brought Rafael on board to develop the choreography for artists Jennifer Allora and Guillermo Calzadilla’s work Revolving Door, which was part of the acclaimed live performance art exhibition 13 Rooms.

Alexander Ekman is an internationally sought after choreographer who has created over 30 works to date, for companies such as Cullberg Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater 2 (NDT2), Goteborg Ballet, Iceland Dance Company, Bern Ballet, Cedar Lake Contemporary Dance, Ballet de l’Opéra du Rhin, Royal Swedish Ballet and The Norwegian National Ballet. His works are known for their clever ideas, fast-paced choreography and abundance of humour.
