Taizhou Luantan Historical Drama Qi Jiguang

Taizhou Luantan, having nearly 400-year history, is the only local opera genre in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province. Based on Luantan, it combines Kun Opera, Hui Opera, Tanhuang opera and other forms. In 2006, Taizhou Luantan was listed as state-level intangible cultural heritage. The Taizhou Luantan historical drama Qi Jiguang tells that Qi Jiguang, the general in Ming Dynasty, fights against Japanese pirates to protect coastal areas and territorial seas, showing his tenacity and patriotism and shaping a national hero.

This drama is directed by state-level director Han Jianying and written by famous playwriter Jiang Chaogao who has created over 40 dramas. It also invites Zhou Zhengping as the light designer who is entitled as “light poet”, and the renowned composer Yang Haoping as its music designer.
