Bollywood as a genre has captured the imagination of the world’s cinema going with its kitschy colors, linear story lines and an accent on finely crafted costumes, sumptuous locations, beautiful actors and actresses, vibrant melodies and the incredible energy of Bollywood dance. From Washington to Wellington, and Durban to Dulles, Bollywood has come to represent all that is unreal. Yet its images have conquered the hearts of countless people in country after country as the genre’s great truth lies in its simplicity and its ability to make you smile and cry and come away with a feeling of joy in your heart. 

The challenge of Bollywood Extravaganza lay in portraying the human side of the quintessential bad guy without whom no Bollywood film would ever work. Recreating the opulence of cinema and translating this into live action on stage is no mean feat and in writing its script I had to look at integrating the traditional boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy wins back girl, story with a twist and yet creating theatrical magic!

The music selected from an array of hits by India’s most prolific composers - including R D Burman, Pritam & Shankar Ehsaan Loy etc. is a tribute to their virtuosity and to the incredible range of music that India produces. Combine this with the energetic and magical choreography of Gilles Chuyen, the brilliance of design by our Producer Sharupa Dutta and an outstanding cast of dancers, singers and musicians, and magic unfolds every night on stage. The production you see unfold this evening is a celebration of love and life.
